WTF with Micro-X: The 70kg scanner that could save millions of stroke patients
Host Fraser Palamara speaks with Professor Stephen Davis from the Australian Stroke Alliance about the massive global impact of stroke and the technology reshaping how it’s treated.
Stroke is the second leading cause of death worldwide, affecting 14 million people every year.
Professor Davis explains the two main types, ischemic (blocked blood vessel) and hemorrhagic (ruptured blood vessel), stressing that “time is brain,” with rapid diagnosis and treatment critical for survival.
That’s where Micro-X (ASX:MX1) comes in. The Adelaide-based company has developed a miniature CT scanner using revolutionary nanotube technology, cutting the weight from 700kg to just 70kg.
The device is now heading into human trials and could soon make stroke diagnosis possible in ambulances, aircraft and remote areas, dramatically improving outcomes for patients everywhere.
As Professor Davis puts it, this innovation could “radically transform the availability of CT scanning — not just in Australia, but worldwide.”
